The Past Few Weeks

Here is a quick recap of what we've been up to the past few weeks:

SUMMER SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS:

These were held in Hurricane the first weekend of August.  Jefferson competed very well, earning a 4th place in breaststroke (his first time ever trying this event) and capturing the gold in the backstroke.  He even took 3 seconds off of his time :)  We are so proud of Jefferson's efforts this summer and look forward to supporting him as he competes for DHS in the fall!

WASHINGTON COUNTY FAIR:

We had a great time at the fair this year, especially when supporting our daughter as she fulfilled her duties as Miss Washington County!

DSC FAMILY BBQ:

In anticipation of the fall semester starting at Dixie State, the college recently held its annual family night for faculty and staff members.  There were hamburgers, cotton candy, snow cones, bounce houses, water fun, and a live band.  In years past, we've attended with all of our children; this year, it was only Jeff and Mat.  I'm trying to adjust to this new family dynamic...but we still managed to have a lot of fun.

I'm so happy that Jefferson still takes the time to play with Mathison.  He is so patient with him, and is such a great older brother :)

Our Kolob Adventure

Our Kolob Adventure took place nearly 2 weeks ago; things have been so crazy around here I'm now only getting around to posting about it!  We had a wonderful time; the only complaint I had was that it wasn't nearly long enough.  Between DEl's busy work schedule and two grown kids with jobs, we were only able to squeeze in one night.  Oh, well - I guess I'd better get used to it.

Before I add an onslaught of pictures, let me warn you of an extra face you see included in some of them.  No, he is not a member of our family, but a very good "FRIEND" Krissia brought along.  I'll let you make your own assumptions about the "friend" status as you look at some of the pictures :)

*NOTE*
In the days it took me to publish this post, Krissia and Mike - aka the "friend" -  have become "facebook official" boyfriend and girlfriend.  I don't think it was a big surprise to anyone who has seen them together :)

"Mat"isms

Mathison has been saying the funniest things lately; I wanted to record them so I won't forget.  You might also get a good laugh out of them ;)

As we were headed to swimming lessons recently, Mathison said, "Mom, swimming is more important."  "More important than what?" I asked.  "More important than drowning!"  he replied.

Mathison discovered a couple of joined PVC pipes at my parents' house.  He brought them inside and announced, "Look what I found outside - some technology!"

Mathison struggles with reverence, so we have been working hard on this behavior.  A few Sundays ago, he sat extremely still during the opening prayer in sacrament meeting.  The second after we said "amen", Mathison looked at me proudly before exclaiming, "Mom, look at how reverent I am!" in his loudest voice.  Apparently, we still have some work to do!

Recently, Mathison informed me that he'd done something "all by myself with Krissia's help".

DEl has been traveling quite a bit this summer, and during one of his trips Mathison told me he wanted to be my boyfriend.  I replied, "I already have a boyfriend - you know who it is, don't you?"  Mathison thought about it a second, then dejectedly replied, "It's Dad."  He suddenly perked up and exclaimed, "But he isn't here now, is he!"  before running over and stealing a kiss on my lips.  I told DEl that maybe he should start staying home more often, as someone is trying to steal his girl  :)
